The Camel Trophy event was an international adventure competition setting new challenges for a group of adventurers from every corner of the globe, all with a common desire to explore distant countries and cultures. The Camel Trophy was traditionally land based, using Land Rovers as the primary mode of transport. The last and most exciting Camel Trophy took place in the balmy waters of the South Pacific.
Thirty two competitors from 16 countries, selected via national trials from more than one million applicants, explored the exotic waters and remote cultures of Tonga and Samoa using specially customised Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs).
The boats, custom built by Ribtec of Southampton and powered by a massive 130hp 4 stroke Honda engine, were designed to cope with the huge demands of this aquatic challenge. Costing in excess of £40,000 new, no expense was spared in constructing these RIBs; no RIBs have ever been so highly specified.
